Flea Treatments

Fleas are blood sucking parasites that can make life miserable for both you and your pet.

They can cause:

  • Severe discomfort with symptoms like scratching, chewing, biting and restlessness
  • Flea Allergy Dermatitis – a very common skin condition in cats and dogs
  • Tapeworm infections
  • Anaemia in puppies and kittens

Adult fleas can begin feeding within seconds of jumping on your pet. They can produce up to 50 eggs per day which can fall off your pets coat on to carpets, floors and furniture. So even a few fleas can quickly turn into a major infestation in your home. That is why it is vital we treat fleas quickly and to make sure your pet is protected even before it comes across a flea. Preventing fleas requires regular flea treatment, usually once a month.  There are many products available.  Please contact us to discuss which one is best for your pet.

Even with flea protection for your pet you still want to make sure your home is flea free too. Adult fleas only represent 5% of the flea life cycle. The other 95% of the life cycle happens in your home. Therefore it is very important you treat your house too. This can be done by hoovering, washing your pets bedding and using an environmental/ house spray which will help to kill the pre-adult stages. Please contact the surgery to find out more.
