Vaccination

Influenza (“flu”)

Jockey Club Regulations for Equine Influenza:

  • The primary course consists of two injections; the second injection is given six weeks after the first. (The interval can be as short as 21 days or as long as 92 days i.e. 3 weeks to 3 months.)
  • The first booster is given six months after the second injection of the primary course. (The interval can be as short as 150 days or as long as 215 days i.e. 5 to 7 months.)
  • All subsequent boosters must be given within 365 days of the last vaccination.
  • Vaccines can be given from six months of age.

Societies which insist on compliance with Jockey Club Regulations include The British Horse Trials Association, The British Endurance Riding Association and all events which take place on race courses or Jockey Club land.

Tetanus

Every horse and pony should be vaccinated against tetanus. Vaccination consists of two injections given at a 6 week interval. It is advisable to give a booster every two years.
