Clinical Pathology

The laboratory evaluation of blood, urine, bodily fluids and tissues to identify disease, and to monitor treatment or disease progression is called clinical pathology. Samples collected for clinical pathology are usually submitted to an external laboratory but some tests can be quickly and easily performed in-house.

The substances most commonly tested are blood and urine, and results are often reported the following day, though this depends on which tests we are requesting. Histology, or looking at tissues under the microscope, and cytology, which is looking at cells under the microscope, usually take a day or two longer.
